Objectif Terre aux Philippines - Destination Land in the Philippines

Food Sovereignty: Small-Scale Farming and Access to Land on Mindanao Island in the Philippines.

Agriculture is not possible without land. Yet many farmers around the world do not own the land they cultivate. The number of people suffering from hunger worldwide is reaching 1 billion, and ¾ of them are farmers.

Consequently, the right of farmers to own land is one of the critical conditions that needs to be fulfilled to achieve food sovereignty and eradicate the planet’s hunger issues.

In the Philippines, there is a high level of inequality in land distribution. Seven out of ten farmers do not own their land and are forced to hand over a large part of their harvest to the great landowners in order to earn their right to farm.
